The Daleville Lady Warhawks volleyball squad is 11-6 after a win over Headland Tuesday, but the past week’s action has been indicative of their whole season.

“It depends which team shows up. They can be as good as they want to be,” said Lady Warhawks head coach Kala Love. “You never know who’s gonna show up.”

A look at the record broken down against opponents can show that.

Daleville split two matches with Ashford Oct. 2 and are 2-1 against the Lady Jackets this year.

Daleville is 1-2 against G.W. Long before Thursday’s game, while they are 1-1 against Houston Academy.

Love said the team serves well mostly.

“As long as we’re on, we serve very well,” she said.

In addition to serving well, the Lady ‘Hawks have found themselves two setters, a spot they were hurting at to start the season.

One of them is Chelsea Abbot.

“She is our best setter. She is the most consistent. She can jump. She’s a natural,” Love said.

The other setter is Mikayla Atchley, who has played fair, Love said.

The Lady ‘Hawks have also gotten good front-row play from Jasmine Beckham.

“She does a good job up at the net. She is our strongest, most consistent hitter,” Love said. “She is our only blocker.”

Love added Ashley Buckhalter shores up the back row defense.

All those elements will need to work Monday as the team travel to play Wicksburg in the first game of the 3A, Area 2 tournament.

Daleville is 3-0 against Wicksburg this year, but Love said the Lady Panthers are not a bad squad.

“We should beat them, but we could beat ourselves,” she said. “They serve well. If we’re not focused, they’ll beat us.”

The winner of the 4:30 p.m. game will qualify for regionals but will have to play Geneva for seeding purposes afterward.

Geneva was 19-2 heading into a tri-match with Dothan and Andalusia Thursday.

Daleville is 0-3 against Geneva.
