The Enterprise Dixie Boys won two games in the South Divisional State tournament, but they were eliminated by Jackson 11-9 Monday.

Jackson was a team they beat in the South Divisional State Tournament last year in Enterprise as Junior Dixie Boys.

Enterprise opened up with a 3-0 win over Prattville, but just like last year, they lost to Selma to fall into the loser’s bracket.

The Dixie Boys staved off elimination once with a 4-3 win over West Side to advance to face Jackson.

Dixie Boys head coach Darwin Stinson said poor hitting followed the team through the tournament.

“Offensively, we haven’t got on track,” he said before the game with Jackson.

That continued somewhat during the Jackson game.

“Dalton Dalrymple was 4-for-4, but nobody’s on before him, and nobody moves him around,” Stinson said.

Stinson tinkered with the lineup to try to find the right combination.

“I just don’t think we played to our potential, and I don’t know if it was because I had the wrong subs in,” he said.

Enterprise fell behind 11-3 to Jackson, but they rallied with six runs to make a game of it.

In the seventh, Dalrymple got a hit with two outs, and Eric Averett ripped a pitch up the middle, Stinson said.

Jackson’s shortstop made a diving stop and threw to first to get Averett by a step.

“When he turned down the chance to get the out at second, I thought we had a chance,” Stinson said. “It was a great play.”

Junior Dixie Boys sent home after two games

After falling to Eufaula 5-4 to open the South Divisional State Tournament, the Enterprise Junior Dixie Boys lost 11-0 to North Clarke to be eliminated from the
tournament.
