Teacher of the week chosen from Elba High School

Elba High School career and tech coordinator Larry Goodson has been teaching at Elba for 19 years. This year, he’ll end his career in education at the end of May.

Goodson said he became a teacher to share knowledge with young people.

“I teach auto tech to grades 10th through seniors and I’ve enjoyed seeing them learn a lot of things to carry them through life,” he said.

According to the teacher, he hopes to leave a legacy that he has planted a seed.

“I hope that any of my students achieve in life to the very highest of their ability,” he said. “That’s what I want to leave them.”
Goodson received his education bachelor’s degree in career and technical education in 1996 from Athens State University.
Past and current mentors include his father and Dr. Bob Kimbrell.

Favorite music: Oldies
Favorite books: The Bible
Goodson’s favorite pastime is stock car racing and Nascar.
Talents: Master certification as an auto technician and firefighting.
Pet peeve: Doesn’t like people who litter.
Values most important to you: That a person be honest and as good as their word. Also, my family and church family.
How would your friends describe you to a stranger? A person who loves his family and friends and one who won’t demand more than others than he would do himself.

Worst fear: To physically be unable to continue working.

Family: Wife, Charlotte; one son and one daughter; two grandsons and a dog, Gizmo.
