U.S. Army Sgt. Matthis Chiroux, 24, of Auburn, was expected to announce his refusal for deployment to Iraq today in Washington, according to the organization Iraq Veterans Against the War, of which he is a member.

Iraq Veterans Against the War was founded in 2004 to give those who have served in the military since 9/11 a way to come together and speak out against what it considers “an unjust, illegal and unwinnable occupation.”
