William Pyatt, 25, of Enterprise, was arrested and charged with third degree burglary Tuesday, said Capt. Mike Lolley of the Enterprise Police Department.
Police were called Monday about 11:15 p.m. to the emergency room at Medical Center Enterprise where Pyatt was being treated for lacerations to his arm. Pyatt, who lives on White Street in Enterprise, needed approximately 15 staples in his arm but gave police conflicting stories about how the injuries occured.
When police questioned Pyatt, he stated that he punched a car window but then retracted and said he was in a fight outside La Tienda & Taqueria on Geneva Highway and his arm went through the store window.
“After finding a front door window broken at the store and blood in the area, we determined that he cut himself,” said Lolley, who believes Pyatt tried to break in around 8 or 9 p.m. Monday. “He gave us several different stories.”
Lolley said nothing was taken from the store.
Gladys Hernandez, who manages the store and restaurant with her family, said that the suspect used a paint can to break the window but cut his arm in the process. The paint can was found discarded near the broken window, which Hernandez said will cost her landlord $200 to replace.
“This is the second time we’ve been broken into,” Hernandez said. Last October, thieves took $56 cash from the register and most of the store’s merchandise. Hernandez said investigators are unsure if the incidents are related.
