Enterprise’s annual Children’s Festival in the Park, originally planned for Saturday, May 3, was postponed due to the possibilitiy of thunderstorms occurring in the area during the event.
June 21 is the new date, and organizers say the festival will include everything previously planned and perhaps even more.
“We had to err on the side of safety,” said Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department’s program director Warren Bowron. He said weather reports Thursday and Friday were calling for dangerous weather in the area.
On the bright side, Bowron said the extra few weeks will give planners more time to attract additional sponsors, and he said there may even be more activities added to the already fun-filled day.
Headlining the festival will be internationally-renowned musician John Scalici, who will facilitate interactive rhythm demonstrations throughout the day and perform in a special concert just before the Medical Center Enterprise fireworks display. Bowron said Scalici has already confirmed his participation in the June 21 festival.
Other activities will include inflatables, games, children’s activities and lots of food. Everything but the food is free, and according to Rotarian Earlene Varney, all proceeds from the sale of food, drinks, snow cones and other concessions will be used by the Rotary Club to maintain and improve the Rotary Playground at the Enterprise Recreation Complex. The playground is the centerpiece of the Children’s Festival.
Those interested in sponsoring the Children’s Festival can get more information by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 334-348-2681.
